Game of Thrones season five gets another brief, mysterious teaser

Samit Sarkar (he/him) is Polygon’s deputy managing editor. He has more than 15 years of experience covering video games, movies, television, and technology.

HBO dropped a second teaser for the fifth season of Game of Thrones earlier this week, another brief video that flits between ominous glimpses of characters, settings and objects in the world of George R.R. Martin's fantasy novels.

Subscribers to The Sight, HBO's teaser site for the upcoming season, received a link to the clip earlier this week. Entertainment Weekly reports that the video was designed to be watched once only, but an enterprising fan saved the teaser and uploaded it to YouTube for public consumption.

The first teaser, which HBO posted in late November, began with Arya Stark. This one starts with a vision of her older sister, Sansa, and then we see Tyrion Lannister, a heart tree, the three-eyed raven itself, the Iron Throne and more.

Game of Thrones' fifth season is expected to debut next spring, with a stand-alone subscription to HBO possibly set to be available prior to the premiere.
