These are the year's most pirated movies and TV shows

The top 10 most pirated movies of 2014 included The Wolf of Wall Street, Frozen and Gravity as well as the latest installments of The Hobbit, Thor and Captain America series, says Variety drawing from information provided by the research firm Excipio. The most pirated television shows were, unsurprisingly, Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead, reports Torrent Freak.

Last week The Interview was released online and was only able to bring in $15 million. The buddy assassination comedy was, by and large, a disappointment for Sony Pictures. Our own review makes it clear that the movie's lack of any redeeming values certainly played against it, but nevertheless the paltry showing isn't likely to get movie executives excited about bringing first-run feature films out online any time soon.

Much of the reason for their hesitation is piracy. Even with The Interview widely available for a fee online, it was still pirated 750,000 times in the first 20 hours after it was released. And all told, it was a big, big year for piracy of both movies and television.
