Red Faction: Guerrilla arrives on Steam for $2.99 with upgrades

Red Faction: Guerrilla, developer Volition's Martian open-world shooter, arrived on Steam today with an otherworldly discount.

Publisher Nordic Games released the game after a month of beta testing. Red Faction: Guerrilla Steam Edition removes its Games for Windows Live innards and offers upgrades like DirectX 11 compatibility, Steam Trading Cards, Steam achievements and leaderboards.

Originally released in 2009 and published by THQ, Red Faction: Guerrilla distinguished itself from other open-world games with extraterrestrial combat, myriad vehicles, destructible — and, later, vaporizable — environments and mechs. The Steam Edition adds Behemoth Mode, which allows players to wreck the environment with mechs.

Red Faction: Guerrilla Steam Edition will retail for $19.99. Until Friday, Dec. 5, at 1 p.m. ET, you can get the game for $2.99 — an 85 percent discount. You can also snag any title in the franchise at the same discount, including the $8.99 Red Faction Collection, which corrals Red Faction, Red Faction 2, Red Faction Armageddon and its soundtrack, Red Faction Armageddon - Path to War, Red Faction Guerrilla Steam Edition and its soundtrack.
