A hacker group has announced the initiation of an attack against Xbox Live. The group, known as Lizard Squad, has a history of targeting online gaming services. Earlier this week it succeeded in disrupting the Microsoft service for a significant amount of time.
Xbox Live attacked for the second time this week (updated)

Reports from users are already filtering in through social media, even as the Xbox Live Status site shows that “core services” are “limited.”
Update: When reached for comment, a Microsoft spokesperson stated that the team “worked quickly to resolve and address the issue and services are being restored to normal.”
As of Saturday morning the Xbox Live Status still shows as “limited.”
