Aban Hawkins & the 1001 Spikes will have 18 playable characters, each with unique abilities that will affect how players approach the game's punishingly difficult levels, according to Nicalis founder Tyrone Rodriguez.
Speaking on Nintendo Minute, Rodriguez said when the developers at 8bits Fanatics and Nicalis were making the game's multiplayer mode, they decide to take it further and make every character different. This then fed back into the single-player mode, allowing players to choose a different character with each playthrough.
"It's not just a visual change [either]," Rodriguez said. "Some characters can climb onto walls, some can grab ledges, some can double jump, some can slide down walls.
"Each character is very different and is a very different experience."
