Tales from the Borderlands details coming at SXSW 2014 panel

Samit Sarkar (he/him) is Polygon’s deputy managing editor. He has more than 15 years of experience covering video games, movies, television, and technology.

Tales from the Borderlands developers Telltale Games and Gearbox Software will divulge the first details about the game during a panel at SXSW 2014, Telltale announced today.

The studios will explain how they came to work together on the project, as well as their plan for the episodic series. Panelists include Gearbox president Randy Pitchford, Borderlands 2 writer Anthony Burch, Borderlands franchise director Matthew Armstrong, Telltale president Kevin Bruner and Telltale designer Harrison Pink. The panel will be moderated by Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon, the hosts of The Indoor Kids, a video game podcast on the Nerdist Network.

"It's been a lot of fun working with [Telltale]," Pitchford told Polygon in a recent interview. "I think they're better storytellers than we are, frankly."

Panel attendees will have the chance to ask the developers questions about Tales from the Borderlands. SXSW visitors can check out the panel, which is called "Two Sides to Every Story - Tales from the Borderlands Unveiled at SXSW," from 5:30-6:15 p.m. on Saturday, March 8. That's during the SXSW Gaming Expo, which runs from March 7-9 at the Palmer Events Center in Austin, Texas.

Tales from the Borderlands is set for release in 2014 on consoles, Mac, Windows PC and mobile devices. Telltale and Gearbox announced the game during VGX 2013 last December.
