Egosoft rolls out hefty X Rebirth update, outlines upcoming features

Egosoft has rolled out another patch for its space sim X Rebirth, according to managing director Bernd Lehahn, who also outlined numerous upcoming features and improvements in active development.

With patch 1.25, the smalltalk mini-game will offer a player a choice of rewards rather than a random one. Players now have the ability to hire agents on stations so they can be kept up to date on trade offers from that station. Users can also view all trade offers from each station from the station's info menu. Target locking will be updated to include a secondary way of setting a target object. Players can cycle through multiple locked on targets by enemy type or distance. Egosoft released a video, shown below, outlining the latest features.

Upcoming features and fixes include support for Steam Workshop integration, map on event monitor, improved support for joysticks and other input devices, improved menus and 64bit EXE support. The developer is also working on providing interaction functionality with NPCs from space to minimize forced landing as "many people do not like being forced to land on stations for frequently repeated tasks." Highway redesign is also in the works and the developer is "experimenting with radically different gameplay inside the highways."

Shortly after its release last November, developer Egosoft took to X Rebirth's Steam Community page to apologize for the title's rocky launch and to outline upcoming updates. For full details on the latest fixes and upcoming features, check out the full change log on the developer's forms.
