Dubstep performer Skrillex's latest album Recess can be unlocked via the mobile game Alien Ride, The Verge reports.
While the game's Google Play and iTunes App Store description makes no mention of the musician, the Asteroids-style title, which was developed by Motim Technologies, lets players unlock tracks from his yet-to-be-released album. "Realize your true potential as an alien as you tilt and fire your way through this compulsive asteroid game, unlocking new features and shooting your way to a high score," the game's description reads. "Fresh graphics and killer audio will make this your new addiction."
Playing through the game allows players to unlock streams of all the tracks. At the end of the game, players are given a link to preorder the album, which officially launches March 18.
This is not the first time the world of music has looked to video games as a way of launching songs and albums. Brooklyn-based band Archie Pelago recently turned a track called "Saturn V" into a video game. Skrillex also previously released a game set to his music, Skrillex Quest. Polygon's interview with the developer Jason Oda can be read here.
