Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist, the live-action series based on Capcom's iconic fighting franchise, will air in its entirety on Machinima, the two companies announced today.
Assassin's Fist is an episodic follow-up to Street Fighter: Legacy, the 2010 fan film that has racked up nearly 5 million views on YouTube. Legacy creator Joey Ansah is a co-producer on Assassin's Fist with Jacqueline Quella at Ansah's production company, Assassin's Fist Limited. The other production partners are Lonely Rock Productions, Gloucester Place Films, Capcom U.S.A. and Evropa Film.
After announcing the series during Comic-Con International 2012 with Capcom's blessing, Ansah launched a Kickstarter campaign for the project last April and quickly canceled it after other companies offered to fund production. Filming took place over the summer.
Ansah co-wrote Assassin's Fist with Christian Howard; both of them also star in the series, playing the roles of Akuma and Ken, respectively. Assassin's Fist follows Ryu and Ken in their youth as they learn the Ansatsuken ("assassin's fist") fighting style and discover the past of their master, Gouken.
Machinima has launched other video game-inspired series, including both seasons of Mortal Kombat: Legacy. All episodes of Assassin's Fist will be available to watch on the network's YouTube channel on the launch date; Machinima has yet to announce a release window beyond "soon."
