Xbox One Skype update improves chat function, adds contact filtering

The first major update to hit Xbox One's Skype app smooths out the chat experience across devices and adds contact sorting and a tutorial for first-time users, according to a post on the Skype blog.

The update improves the chat experience across devices, tailored to make sure users who Skype across Xbox One, PC and mobile devices miss less calls and messages. The update also synchronizes conversations across devices and adds push notifications as well as the ability to sift through chat histories up to 1,000 messages in the past.

Contact filtering will allow users to instantly view who is online without having to scroll through their contacts list, and a new tutorial will help guide new Skype users on video calling and messaging. In addition to continued bug squashing, the Skype team has also added emoticons themed to look like characters from the upcoming film Captain America: The Winter Solider.

Skype was available on Xbox One when the console launched last November. Check out our UI walkthrough of the Xbox One, which includes a brief run-down of how Skype works on the console.
