Take This, the charitable organization that promotes mental and emotional well-being, will have a significant presence at PAX East 2014, including a special place for attendees to get away from the commotion of the convention.
In a continuation of a partnership with the organizers of the Penny Arcade Expo that began last fall, Take This will host an "AFK Room" at PAX East where people who are feeling overwhelmed by the show can take a break. Volunteers and mental health professionals will be on hand to provide care and support to visitors, as well as guidance regarding further resources.
Take This officials have also put together a curriculum for PAX Enforcers, the volunteers who help keep the show running in an orderly fashion, in an effort to give them an idea of how to recognize and help out attendees who are in need of emotional support. And in its second annual PAX East panel, "But I'm Not Crazy," Take This representatives and other individuals will share stories of their struggles with mental and emotional health and discuss the stigma that mental illness still carries. The panel will take place on Friday, April 11, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. ET in the Arachnid Theater.
PAX East 2014 will run from April 11-13 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center in Boston, and Polygon will be there to bring you all the latest from the show. You can see the full list of panels featuring Polygon staffers in the show schedule.
Disclosure: Russ Pitts, Polygon's features editor, is president and co-founder of Take This.
