CD Projekt Red planning to launch a mobile game this year

CD Projekt Red, the developer best known for its Witcher series of role-playing games, is developing a multiplatform mobile game it plans to launch this year, Eurogamer reports.

According to an internal report, the Polish developer is working with "an external partner" on the unnamed game.

"It's a multiplatform mobile game, made with advanced technological capabilities of tablets and smartphones in mind," a translation of the report reads. "Thus, we are entering a completely new territory in terms of gameplay and business model, realizing our strategic plans to enter the mobile gaming market."

CD Projekt Red's next Witcher game, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, will launch in February 2015. A board game based on The Witcher is scheduled for release this year.

Update: CD Projekt Red took to its official blog today to "shed some light" on the upcoming game and the development team creating it.

"In regards to the recent news about our mobile game, we would like to shed some light on this topic," the post reads. "We know that sometimes mobile games can be perceived as unfair and shallow. Because of that, we decided to conduct an experiment and create something that would both embody our core values and be fun to play. That game is being developed by a special task force which is an independent team, in no way related to the devs working on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. There will be time to talk about various details of this project in the future so please stay tuned for the official announcement."
