Murdered: Soul Suspect trailer hides buried secrets

Samit Sarkar (he/him) is Polygon’s deputy managing editor. He has more than 15 years of experience covering video games, movies, television, and technology.

The latest trailer for Murdered: Soul Suspect, the supernatural mystery thriller from Airtight Games, introduces a side character named Joy, a young woman who can see the ghostly protagonist, Ronan O'Connor.

O'Connor has been murdered, and the premise of Murdered: Soul Suspect is that he's spending his afterlife attempting to find out who killed him. During the game, O'Connor encounters Joy, who happens to be able to see and speak to him. According to Airtight, O'Connor serves as something of a mentor to Joy. Murdered: Soul Suspect plays out like an adventure game of sorts, with O'Connor perusing crime scenes for clues and trying to piece them together. He also has to avoid the demons in the ghost realm, which is known as the Dusk.

Murdered: Soul Suspect is being published by Square Enix and is set for release June 3 on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. For more, check out our preview from last month.
