Pixels, a movie based on Patrick Jean's short film, begins shooting this summer in Toronto with Adam Sandler, Kevin James and Josh Gad, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The movie is being directed by Chris Columbus, best known for his work on films such as The Goonies, Gremlins and Harry Potter. Pixels, which will reportedly feature heavy special effects, follows several "video game experts" drafted by the United States government to save New York from an onslaught of retro games.
The film is expected to hit theaters in 2016.
Released in 2010, the original Pixels features 8-bit video game characters overrunning New York. You can watch it below.
