Stronghold Crusader 2 trailer shows skirmish mode in medieval Middle East conflict

Firefly Studios has released a new trailer for its castle defense simulation Stronghold Crusader 2.

The new trailer shows an eight-player online skirmish mode that allows competitors to play in teams or co-op. New AI player Saladin is also revealed as part of the two single-player campaigns set during the Crusades. The trailer shows castle design mechanics and some medieval dialog such as, "I will boil your kidneys."

The original Stronghold Crusader was published by 2K Games and God Games more than ten years ago, itself a follow-up to 2001's Stronghold. According to Firefly, the series has sold six million copies to date. Stronghold Crusader 2 is due for release on Windows PC this summer.

"It simply wouldn't be a Crusader game without a skirmish mode and the kind of replayability that offers," said a Firefly spokesperson. "This is what we intended to deliver from day one and it's fundamental to the game's design."
