Internet-based subscription service Foxtel Play is now available on Australian PlayStation 3 systems, Sony Computer Entertainment Australia announced at an event in Sydney today, allowing users to watch Game of Thrones Season 4 when it premieres on April 7.
"We are also pleased to announce that Foxtel Play will be on PlayStation 4 and we'll announce the date very shortly," SCEA managing director Michael Ephraim said, adding that there are two million PS3 consoles in the region to date. "This really builds on our service entertainment credentials and it will build on the entertainment credentials in the next-generation space. We will be making other announcements for PS3 and PS4 in the near future."
PlayStation Network account holders can download the Foxtel Play app onto their PS3 systems, beginning today. Those who wish to watch Game of Thrones are required to subscribe to Foxtel's showcase package via the premium drama and movies tier. Foxtel Play subscribers can sign up by the month, allowing them to stop and start their subscription month-to-month.
"With Game of Thrones less than a week away and knowing that PlayStation customers love their video content, bringing together Foxtel Play and PlayStation is a great match." Jason Blair, head of product marketing at Foxtel, said, explaining a new package offer. "New and existing customers to Foxtel Play will basically be able to add premium movies or drama tier to their existing $25 genre pick for $10 per month... for a total of $35 per month for the first three months."
Foxtel Play packages offer more than 45 live channels, including Fox Sports 1, 2 and 3, Foxtel Movie channels, showcase, FOX8, Arena, Lifestyle, History, Discovery, A&E, National Geographic, UKTV, FX, SoHo, MTV, Universal Channel, ESPN, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon and Disney Channel.
