Screenshots of Ubisoft's Child of Light that are posted to the internet using the PlayStation 4's Share button feature a Ubisoft watermark in the bottom-right corner, making it possibly the first PS4 title to do so.
Child of Light screenshots posted today on Twitter by Jared Rea, community manager for WWE video games at 2K Sports, are watermarked with a Ubisoft logo (see above and below). It's unclear if this is exclusive to the PS4 version of the game or even to screenshots; there's no word on whether footage recorded through the PS4's Share button or the Xbox One's Game DVR functionality also include Ubisoft watermarks. Screenshots shared from the PS4 versions of other Ubisoft titles, such as Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag (example) and the recently released Trials Fusion (example), are free of watermarks.
The PS4 allows players to share screenshots and video clips of games using the Share button on the DualShock 4 controller, although publishers have the ability to restrict the output — for example, 2K Sports' NBA 2K14 excised sound before uploading footage because of the licensed music in the game. But this may be the first instance of a watermark being applied to a PS4 screenshot before sharing. Certain PlayStation Vita titles do add watermarks to screenshots taken with the handheld, such as text with copyright information.
We've reached out to Ubisoft and Sony for comment, and will update this article with any information we receive. Child of Light launches tomorrow on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii U, Windows PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Check out our full review for more.
Also, I somehow missed the fact this is a turn-based RPG. I'm ok with this! #PS4share pic.twitter.com/cbVZffejWb
