Reign of Giants Steam Early Access release expands Don't Starve with new terrors

Don't Starve: Reign of Giants, the new expansion for Klei Entertainment's survival game, is now available for $3.99 on Steam Early Access.

Reign of Giants expands upon the world of Don't Starve with new biomes and adds new scientific innovations, creatures and challenges. It also introduces a full year of seasons with torrential spring rains to blistering summers, a new save slot and giants. You can get a taste of the DLC in the video below.

Two new playable characters are a stage actress called Wigfrid, "who went a bit too far with method acting on her latest role" as an ancient Valkyrie, and a young boy by the name of Webber, "who lives inside the spider who tried to eat him long ago."

Reign of Giants full price is discounted by 20 percent until April 29 when it will rise to $4.99. The expansion's beta is also available for purchase from Klei's Humble Store widget. Players are required to own the full game in order to play the expansion's beta, although users who don't can choose to purchase the DLC now and play once the standalone version is available.

"Previous beta participants will simply get updated to the newest version," developer Joe Wall wrote on the studio's forums. "Everybody participating in the beta will be updated to the live version after the beta ends and standalone versions will be made available to all purchases once available."

The developer released Don't Starve on Windows PC and Mac via its own website and on Steam last year, followed by a PlayStation 4 launch in January. For more information about Don't Starve, be sure to read our review and check out our feature on Klei Entertainment.
