A new trailer debuted on the PlayStation Blog for Frictional Games' upcoming sci-fi survival horror title SOMA reveals the environment through which players will face its terrors — the bottom of the sea, along the darkest depths of the ocean floor.
The trailer above gives an eerie first look at the place players will encounter — a sunken submarine filled with water, sea floor fauna and fish. According to the post by creative director Thomas Grip, he and Frictional Games co-founder Jens Nilsson decided on the setting "on a whim," although both had been discussing the possibility of an underwater game for some time.
"Most of our earth is covered in ocean, and yet it's something that we know very little about," Grip explained. "It is an incredibly hostile environment filled with strange creatures, and it is right on our door step.
"The ocean is an alien world, and we've only scratched the surface," he added. "We feel it's the perfect place to explore in a horror game."
SOMA was revealed last October through a set of teaser trailers. The game takes place on a remote research station in which the machinery begin to take on a life of their own. SOMA will launch for Linux, Mac, PlayStation 4 and Windows PC in 2015.
