New Regency and Ubisoft are in talks with Justin Kurzel to direct the live-action film adaptation of Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed, reports Deadline.
Kurzel recently directed the film adaptation of Shakespeare's Macbeth, which features Michael Fassbender in the starring role as Macbeth. Kurzel previously directed Snowtown, an Australian crime horror film based on the true story of the Snowtown murders and the "Boner McPharlin's Moll" segment in The Turning, a collection of short films based on stories by writer Tim Winton.
The movie is slated to premiere in August 2015 and will star Fassbender (Prometheus, 12 Years a Slave, X-Men: Days of Future Past) reportedly as Desmond Miles, the modern-day protagonist from the first three Assassin's Creed titles.
The film signed on two new writers earlier this month to re-draft the script, Bill Collage and Adam Cooper, both of whom previously worked on Ridley Scott's upcoming Exodus: Gods & Kings and historical film about George Washington titled The General. The Wolverine writer Scott Frank and British playwright Michael Lesslie both wrote earlier drafts the film's script.
