The International, Valve's worldwide Dota 2 championship tournament, is currently sitting on a prize pool totaling more than $4 million due to 2014 Compendium sales.
Valve opened sales of the official digital program for the International 2014 championships over the weekend for $10, where $2.50 of every sale is contributed to the $1.6 million prize pool. Compendium contributions raised last year's The International's prize pool to a total of $2.8 million.
In-game rewards unlock for Compendium owners and Dota 2 players as the contributing funds hits stretch goals. For instance, the $4 million stretch goal unlocked the Mini-Pudge Courier. Hitting the $4.5 million and $5 million marks unlock new music and new matchmaking, respectively. More details about The Compendium, which allows fans to keep up to date with competitors and matches, and its fundraising stretch goals are on The International's official site.
Regional qualifiers are currently underway in eight countries, with the sold out finals slated for July 18-21 at KeyArena in Seattle. Alliance beat Natus Vincere in last year's The International to win more than $1.4 million in prize money.
