Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor video examines stat-boosting magic runes

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor will have a handful of retailer-exclusive downloadable content attached to pre-orders, including bonus in-game magic runes that boost protagonist Talion's speed and other stats, developer Monolith announced today.

Players who pre-order through Amazon will get the Deadly Archer Rune, which boosts the damage of ranged headshots. Best Buy pre-orders include the Flame Arnor Rune, which adds flames to Talion's sword and helps rack up higher attack combo chains. GameStop pre-orders feature the Captain of the Watch skin — a cosmetic costume for Talion — as well as the Hidden Blade Rune, which allows Talion to deal extra damage with stealth attacks. And pre-orders through Steam include the Orc Slayer Rune, which bolsters the effectiveness of Talion's special attacks.

All pre-orders will include the Dark Ranger bonus pack, which features a new costume and new challenge mode.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor follows Talion — a ranger brought back to life by a mysterious spirit — on a quest for vengeance against Sauron, Middle-earth's most evil foe. Shadow of Mordor will launch on Oct. 7 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
