Mortal Kombat co-creator continues cryptic countdown

NetherRealm Studios' creative director and Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon continues to tease what appears to be an upcoming announcement with cryptic tweets.

The latest image includes a car bumper, with Boon pointing specifically to the phrase, "MKX."

Boon began his strange teasers earlier this month. On May 4, Boon tweeted "Square root of 841," to which the answer is 29. The following day, he asked how many days there were in February during a non-leap year (28). May 6 included a tweet with a clip from The Simpsons focusing on the number 27. Each new hint appears to be counting down to June 2, a date shortly before E3 2014.

Although the tweet above should correspond with the number 15, the X could be related to the Roman numeral 10 — the next numbered game in the franchise.

Mortal Kombat 9 launched in 2011. Boon recently announced via Twitter that the game will continue to run online, despite being affected by the GameSpy shutdown.
