A series of blog posts on the Dragon Age Inquisition website offer details on the game's heroic order, the Grey Wardens, and their longstanding enemies the darkspawn.
The Grey Wardens were introduced in the first Dragon Age as a special group of warriors tasked with destroying the darkspawn, an evil force in the game's world. According to the post, there are seven once revered gods; four have returned as Archdemons, or foes more powerful than the typical darkspawn.
"No one knows where the darkspawn come from," the post reads. "A dark mockery of men, in the darkest places they thrive, growing in numbers as a plague of locusts will. In raids, they will often take captives, dragging their victims alive into the Deep Roads, but most evidence suggests that these are eaten. Like spiders, it seems darkspawn prefer their food still breathing. Perhaps they are simply spawned by the darkness."
A second post on the site also details the Fortress of Adamant, built to be a stronghold against the darkspawn. The fortress has been sealed, however, and since fallen into obscurity.
Concept art from the upcoming title is available on the official website. Originally called Dragon Age 3: Inquisition, Dragon Age Inquisition was announced in 2012. It's slated for launch this fall for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
