Crytek reveals Arena of Fate coming summer 2014 for PC and consoles

An announcement trailer released by Crytek unveils the company's upcoming "action-packed" online multiplayer game titled Arena of Fate, slated to arrive summer 2014 for PC and consoles.

Players "step into the shoes of legendary heroes from history and fantasy and lock horns in Arena of Fate." The trailer invites interested parties to sign up for the beta via the official website, which is now live.

Arena of Fate features 5 vs. 5 battles with historical and fantasy characters that offer battle traits unique to their respective eras. So far, playable characters include Joan of Arc, Tesla, Robin Hood, Little Red Riding Hood and the werewolf Fenrir, with more the be revealed at a later date. Early Access Beta will begin this summer and the game will be playable at E3 2014.

"Imagine Joan of Arc and Robin Hood cooperating to hunt down Little Red Riding Hood — Wouldn't that be terrific?" Managing Director of Crytek Black Sea and Game Director of Arena of Fate, Vesselin Handjiev, said. "But besides the game's iconic heroes, which everyone in the team really loves, we are also challenging ourselves to carefully craft a streamlined player experience that allows for both greater accessibility, and rich, deep, action-packed gameplay. We are very excited to meet the first wave of players in the arena this summer, and will be listening carefully to the feedback we receive and making the community's contribution a key part of our efforts to perfect the fun."

The game is in development by Bulgarian studio Crytek Black Sea. As Black Sea Studio, the developer created PC games such as real-time strategy game Knights of Honor in 2004 and science fiction tactical role-playing game WorldShift in 2008. The company was purchased by Crytek in July 2008 and renamed Crytek Black Sea.
