From Software's Project Beast footage appears online

Footage allegedly depicting Project Beast, a project rumored to be in production for PlayStation 4 by Sony Computer Entertainment Japan and Dark Souls developer From Software, has appeared online.

The four webm clips originally appeared in the /v/ subforum on 4chan and later posted on NeoGAF by user drotahorror. The footage, compiled in the video above by Vyktar, features the From Software logo and a warrior venturing through a fantasy environment, battling against decrepit beings. The final clip ends with the character approaching a hulking, tentacled horror across a vast chamber.

The environments, theme, animations and character designs are in the iconic style featured in From Software's Souls franchise. While the clips are brief, the character in it appears to be wielding a gun, which separates the title from the pure fantasy weapons and magic of the Souls games.

SCEJ and From Software worked together on the original Demon's Souls that launched in North America and Europe in 2009 and 2010, respectively. Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida told Polygon last June that he loves the action role-playing game and would like to see more of the title on PlayStation platforms. Yoshida added that he believes Sony "dropped the ball" when it passed on publishing Demon's Souls in North America and Europe.

From Software, who released Dark Souls 2 in March, was recently acquired by Japanese media corporation and Killer is Dead publisher Kadokawa. The deal was announced in April and finalized last week where Kadokawa purchased 80 percent of From Software stock. With Souls series creator Hidetaka Miyazaki as president, the developer will work alongside Kadokawa's internal development team to create games, new IP and focus on Western markets.
