Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft's "Unleash the Hounds" card will get a small tweak to its mana requirements, due to Hunter decks becoming a more dominant force than Blizzard is "comfortable" with, community manager Christina Sims announced on Battle.net.
Hearthstone requires players to balance building and distributing mana turn-by-turn to tap in bigger and better cards. Unleash the Hounds will now require three mana, rather than two. According to Sims, the change will make the card "more fun to play against while still allowing for some big plays."
"At the very highest levels of play there are a lot of different decks performing well, and the decks at the top change from week to week," Sims said. "Since we've seen many cards and deck types in the current state of the game rise and fall as players adapt, we did not want to change Unleash the Hounds immediately. However, Hunter decks have become increasingly more dominant and are doing better than we are comfortable across many levels of play."
Sims added that while the team does like the idea of decks that require a big turn to pull off good combos, playing against Hunter decks can make players feel punished for playing minions.
"Playing minions is one of the key, fun pieces of the overall Hearthstone puzzle, and feeling like your options are limited by the opponent creates a play experience that may not be particularly enjoyable," Sims wrote.
Balance changes are taken seriously, Sims added, and Blizzard will only implement adjustments it feels are necessary.
