Madden NFL 15 cover decision down to two players

New, comments

The final round of the fan-voted contest for the cover of Madden NFL 15 is underway, pitting defensive back Richard Sherman of the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks versus Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton.

Voting will end on Friday and the winner will be announced in the 6 p.m. ET edition of ESPN's SportsCenter. This year's contest is a trimmed-down version of a promotion that, in years past, featured candidate pools as large as 64 players.

Newton was the runner-up to Calvin Johnson for the cover of Madden NFL 13. Sherman, the best cornerback in the NFL, is in his contest debut. The only defensive player to have the Madden NFL cover all to himself was Baltimore's Ray Lews 10 years ago, in Madden NFL 2005.

Madden NFL 15 launches Aug. 26 for PlayStation 3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One; more detail about the game is expected to come at E3 2014 next week.
