Bayonetta: Bloody Fate anime coming to US and Canada later this year

The animated feature based on Platinum Games' Bayonetta, Bayonetta: Bloody Fate, is coming to DVD and Blu-ray in the U.S. and Canada later this year.

Funimation Entertainment announced today it has acquired rights to release the animated movie, which was produced by animation studio Gonzo and theatrically released in Japan last year. Bayonetta: Bloody Fate's story, in which the eponymous witch battles angels as she learns about her forgotten past, is adapted from the video game developed by Platinum and published by Sega in 2009.

Director Fuminori Kizaki will make an appearance at this year's Anime Expo in Los Angeles, Calif., which runs July 3-6. He'll provide a sneak peek of the movie's English dub and take part in a Q&A session on Saturday, July 5. You can watch a Japanese language trailer for Bayonetta: Bloody Fate above.

A sequel to the original game, Bayonetta 2, is coming to Wii U this October. It will include a port of the original game as part of the package.
