TV-show inspired strategy RPG Falling Skies coming to consoles

Falling Skies, a tactical strategy role-playing game based on a TNT sci-fi drama of the same name, will launch for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U this fall, publisher Little Orbit announced today.

Falling Skies is set in a post-apocalyptic world in which aliens have invaded and taken over. The game will feature characters from the show as players engage in tactical battles on randomized maps. According to the announcement, it will offer a "never-ending list of missions," in addition to unlockable skill and equipment upgrades.

"Survival of the human race is at stake," the announcement reads. "Players will dive into a world gone wrong and command a squad of recently-rescued survivors who have been recruited into the human resistance fighting to save the planet. The team will engage in covert tactical operations against the Espheni fighting to survive against alien invaders while also rescuing and recruiting survivors to the join the 2nd Mass. "

Little Orbit president Matt Scott said the team's goal is to recreate the human elements of the show to allow players to grow with the characters.

"We want to bring that same character driven storyline derived from the series to the game all while making it easy to navigate for every player," Scott said.

A mobile strategy game called Falling Skies: Planetary Warfare was released for iOS earlier this year. Players construct a base and try to defend it from oncoming attacks.
