Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark - Overview video

Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark has all the pieces a successful robo-car game might need, but few of them seem to snap together correctly.

There's a clever, fairly compelling progression and customization hook across the game's single-player and multiplayer modes. There are a multitude of recognizable faces from nearly every generation of the franchise. There are plenty of car-on-robot-on-robotic-insect combat scenarios for players to get embroiled in. Unfortunately, the game's agonizingly repetitive structure and general lack of polish turns robotic brawls into kind of a chore, which seems like kind of a tough feat to pull off.

In today's Overview, Arthur and I get behind the wheel of a few Decepticons as we play through one of Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark's lengthy campaign chapters. We also go hunting for Wahlbergs — but alas, there is nary a Wahlberg to be found, here.
