Night In The Woods, an adventure and exploration game, will be released for PlayStation 4, animator Scott Benson announced via the PlayStation Blog.
Night In The Woods was funded via Kickstarter last year. The game is set in the town of Possum Springs, "a dead-end backwater that is barely holding on after the mining jobs left." Its story follows Mae, a cat who dropped out of college, and her friends in Possum Springs. According to Benson, the game is about letting go and holding on.
"We wanted to create characters people could identify with and the kind of town a lot of people are from, but with more talking animal people," Benson wrote. " ... Night In The Woods is a game about the inevitability of death... and pizza parties."
A release date for the game has not yet been announced. Check out the trailer above for more on the announcement.
The game is being distributed by Finji, the new studio from Canabalt creator Adam Saltsman. Night In The Woods is the first partner project — a game that the company is helping to produce in "non-development ways" — from Finji.
