GameTrailers and its fellow gaming focused properties Addicting Games and Shockwave have been acquired from Viacom by digital content distributer Defy media, the company announced today.
GameTrailers was founded in 2002 and provides gaming coverage in the form of videos, reviews and shows. Addicting Games offers online flash and arcade games, as does Shockwave. All three properties will join Defy Media's other properties, which include Smosh Games, The Escapist and Gamefront. The financial details of the deal were not revealed.
According to a statement from Defy CEO Matthew Diamond, the new brands are a way to expand on the company's exisiting portfolio.
"We formed Defy with the belief that our infrastructure and brands represent the strongest platform in digital media for reach and scale to the 13-34 year old audience and with Viacom's partnership we now have additional assets and support to fulfill that vision," Diamond said.
