The Horus Heresy: Drop Assault is set against Warhammer 40,000's civil war

The latest entry in the Warhammer 40,000 franchise, The Horus Heresy: Drop Assault, will be the first game to take place during an era of civil war known as the Horus Heresy, developer Complex Games announced.

Drop Assault is a fast-paced tactical game set against conflict among the Emperor's Space Marine Legions in the 30th millennium. After choosing a side as either a Traitor or Loyalist, players work to build and customize their armies. Players can also build chapters with friends or challenge players worldwide.

"The Horus Heresy is an iconic and seminal part of our IP that describes the dark period in the Imperium's history that ultimately led to the way the Warhammer 40,000 universe looks now," Head of Games Workshop licensing Jon Gillard said.

"As a setting it has been the basis for numerous New York Times best-selling novels, card games and more recently some amazing models from our Forge World division. The dark treachery and over the top battles of this epic civil war make it perfect for the game Complex are making and aficionados of our worlds will be very excited about this legendary setting being brought to life as a video game for the first time."

The Horus Heresy: Drop Assault will launch for Android and iOS; the last game in the series to hit mobile was Warhammer 40,000: Storm of Vengeance earlier this year.  Check out the trailer above for a look at the game.
