Learn more about Sunset Overdrive's eight-player Chaos Squad mode in this video

Sunset Overdrive developer Insomniac Games announced the game's eight-player Chaos Squad mode during E3 2014, and the studio offered a closer look at the multiplayer mayhem with a new developer diary today.

Chaos Squad can be played cooperatively by up to eight players online, and it takes place in the open world of Sunset City. The mode has two phases: First, you team up to complete a variety of daytime missions of your choosing, and when night falls, you all defend against waves of incoming mutants with traps and gunfire. According to Insomniac, the nighttime opposition will be affected by your level of success with the morning missions.

Insomniac also noted that the character you play as in Chaos Squad is the same as the one you create for the single-player story mode. And rewards that you earn in Chaos Squad, such as special weapons, can be brought back into the campaign.
