Five new characters from Marvel's rag-tag team of intergalactic heroes, Guardians of the Galaxy, will join Disney Infinity 2.0's virtual world this fall, executive producer John Vignocchi announced during a recent event in San Francisco.
The Guardians of the Galaxy will appear inside Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes as a standalone playset. After the gang gets ahold of one of the legendary Infinity Stones, they find the deadly Ronan the Accuser hot in pursuit. The set is being developed by Studio Gobo, who worked on the Pirates of the Caribbean playset.
Each character has their own set of special moves. As Star-Lord, players will have access to standard melee abilities, a special super jump ability and dual-wield pistols. There's also Drax, who Vignocchi describes as "a very brutal, inside and up close melee combat fighter." He has two daggers as well, which he can use to wall-crawl. The deadly Gamora will play "similar to [the Avenger's] Black Widow" with her abilities to move quickly from foe to foe, Vignocchi said. Gamora's super move is a powerful slice that can tear through enemies on the battlefield.
Rounding out the set is Groot — a humanoid tree who can extend his limbs to attack — and Rocket Raccoon, a pistol wielding raccoon. Rocket's super move allows him to fire off a gigantic blast to wipe out bad guys with ease.
Players will be able to customize their Toy Boxes with Guardians of the Galaxy-themed armor, items and more.
The Guardians of the Galaxy are the latest band of super heroes to join the game. In April, Disney announced the arrival of the Avengers, also expected when the game launches this fall. At the time, the company teased Rocket and his pal Groot with a short appearance in a gameplay video.
During the Guardians of the Galaxy reveal, Vignocchi hinted that more characters could be announced at San Diego Comic-Con, which takes place July 24 - 27.
"That wraps up the first round of the Marvel super heroes that are being integrated into Disney Infinity 2.0, but there are more characters coming inside of Disney Infinity 2.0 from Marvel," Vignocchi said.
