GTA 4 now looks as good as GTA 5 — if you have a PC

The best Grand Theft Auto 4 mod — arguably one of the best mods of all time — has been updated. iCEnhancer 3.0 further improves upon the mod that increases the graphical fidelity of GTA 4 to levels that rival and sometimes surpass its successor. But unlike GTA 5, the iCEnhancer mod has been developed externally, albeit with Rockstar Games' tacit support. Which is to say, they haven't shut down the mod with a cease-and-desist.

The mod introduces a number of new features and tweaks some preexisting ones to improve the overall look, including depth of field, lens textures, post-effects, bloom, motion blur and color processing. And all of the features are customizable, allowing players to tweak the game's appearance, ideal for those who hate when bloom lighting makes the game look like a soggy, blown-out impressionist painting.

How good does it look? Here's iCEnhancer 3.0 combined with BisonSale's leaves mod. In a game about climbing the social ladder by killing indiscriminately, I'm most excited about leaves. You can download iCEnhancer 3.0 here; it is only available for PC.
