Bloodborne's first gameplay trailer chronicles the bloody, burning nightly hunt

Every night, there's a hunt.

That's the premise of a new Bloodborne trailer that premiered today at at Sony's Gamescom 2014 press conference. Press play above to watch a journey through a dark and dangerous land filled with monstrous creatures and smoldering funeral pyres.

After weeks of leaks, rumors and speculation about something called Project Beast, Bloodborne became official at E3 2014. The PlayStation 4 exclusive action role-playing game is inspired by the Demon's Souls and Dark Souls universes that director Hidetaka Miyazaki created.

"Creating Bloodborne as a completely new game on the new PlayStation 4 hardware has allowed us to really push the envelope in myriad ways," Miyazaki said after the reveal. "That being said, in more ways than one, it also very much retains our distinct, signature style. As has been at the core of our development philosophy since Demon's Souls, we make true games for people who love games. Please watch for more to come on Bloodborne, and thank you very much for your support."
