Disney Infinity 2.0 brings with it a slew of new options for the open-world, build-it-yourself Toy Box mode of the toys-to-life game, the company announced this week.
The new Disney Infinity, due out Sept. 23 in North America on PS3, PS4, PS Vita, Windows PC, Wii U, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, includes a host of new options designed around some of the issues with the original game. Fans, myself included, found it frustrating to unlock the toys, pieces and characters they wanted to use in Toy Box mode. In the original game, things were unlocked randomly. In the new game, players can choose what they unlock.
But that's the smallest of the changes coming to Toy Box. This time around players can easily control procedurally generated content on a map by simply choosing a theme they like and what size they want the structure to be. The game then creates it for them. Players can also drop non-player characters onto a map and allow those characters to build structures matching the theme they come from.
The new Toy Box will also include templates, allowing players to quickly drop and create things like battle arenas and race tracks that they can then personalize.
Another fun edition is the ability to create interior levels, allowing players to build rooms and theme them to characters. So now the game will have unlockable furniture and decorations.

The Starter Pack for the game will include Toy Box Game discs which players can use to access standalone game modes like Tower Defense and Dungeon Crawler games, all themed from the Disney Universe.
Of course, the new game brings with it new toys. Some of those include a challenge maker which is designed to make it easier to turn anything into a game. The Toy Box Game Maker allows a creator to restrict core actions in the Toy Box. A Text Creator allows builders to write text bubbles.
Finally, Disney Infinity 2.0 is streamlining the way you can play online. An updated online service will include a newsfeed screen, increased storage, the ability to share Toy Boxes directly with friends, and now you will be able to like your favorite published Toy Boxes and search through Toy Boxes by category.
I had a bit of time earlier this month to play around with the new Toy Box and was surprised at how much they've streamlined the process of building, sharing and playing.
