The developer of Mutant Mudds, Dementium and Moon Chronicles has another project in the works: a Metroid and Castlevania-inspired adventure for Nintendo 3DS called Xeodrifter.
"I am a huge fan of Super Metroid, Metroid Zero Mission, and Castlevania: Circle of the Moon, and have always wanted to develop a game in that sub-genre," Renegade Kid co-founder Jools Watsham wrote in a developer diary posted on Go Nintendo. "The day finally came where the desire to develop it got too strong and I just had to act on it. Xeodrifter was born."
Watsham describes Xeodrifter as a "small, bite-sized experience" comparable to downloadable 3DS game Ikachan from Cave Story creator Daisuke Amaya. "I want it to be something that you can dip into for fun, and accomplish in a relatively short period of time," he said. "But, there will be enough secret goodies located off the main path to keep the thorough gamers among us busy for a little longer."
Xeodrifter will use the limited color palette of the Nintendo Entertainment System, Watsham said, for a "NEO-NES look."
Watsham also said that development of Xeodrifter meant putting another Renegade Kid project, Treasurenauts, on hold. Development on that 2D sidescrolling game will continue, once Xeodrifter is complete.
Two other announced projects from the developer, horror game Cult County and freestyle scooter game Razor Global Domination World Tour, are not actively being worked on. The former failed to find success on Kickstarter and the latter is "dead" for Renegade Kid due to "publisher issues outside of [their] control."
