Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments is solving the case on Sept. 30

Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments launches Sept. 30 in North America and Europe, publisher Focus Home announced today.

The game features six cases that conclude in nine possible endings based on the choices Holmes makes throughout. Additionally, developer Frogwares has developed the game in Unreal Engine 3, a change from its typically used in-house engine, which will allow for greater detail in scoping out the crime scene and the characters Holmes meets.

Frogware previously told us it is tweaking its Sherlock Holmes series to be more modern with the introduction of "Sherlock Vision," a mechanic inspired by the BBC's Sherlock series that allows player to see through the detective's eyes.

According to Frogwares' business developer Olga Ryzhko, Sherlock vision will help take the series to the "next level" for Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments, the upcoming installment in the franchise set to launch early next year. Ryzhko calls the game the "most challenging, most sophisticated" Sherlock game yet, and said the development team has built on previous games' mechanics while tweaking them slightly for a more modern feel.

Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments will release on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and Windows PC.
