Six months of survival in Alien: Isolation

Sega announced the details of Alien: Isolation's Survivor Mode today, offering a series of five DLC add-on packs that will be available from Oct. 28.

Those packs will be released over the following six months, and are available individually or through the game's season pass.

Survivor Mode will strip the game down to its most basic elements, pitting the player one-on-one against the Alien or another of the game's enemies. In the mode, you'll need to use every item on the map and "complete a unique set of objectives."

Also of note — each pack will come with a new playable character.

Most of the Alien films take place over a matter of hours, or occasionally days. Once the creature (or creatures) are full-grown and attacking people, the body count climbs steadily, and survival options are few. Only Newt, the young girl from Aliens, really seems to have figured out how to live in that situation for longer than a few days. I'm hoping that one of the player characters is a young girl, in a nod to Newt's hiding-in-small-spaces skills.

Alien: Isolation will launch on Oct. 7 for the Xbox One, PS4, Windows PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.
