Japan's New Nintendo 3DS TV ad gives Link, Mario and Pikachu amazing J-pop makeovers

New, comments

In an effort to promote next week's Japanese launch of the New Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo's recruited singer and model Kyary Pamyu Pamyu to highlight the system's cute, customizable backing plates that add patterns, pops of color and Nintendo characters to the hardware. Nintendo has also given the likes of Mario, Luigi, Link, Pikachu and Kirby a surprising stylish revamp.

Watch Kyary's new TV spot to see Link sporting a Hylian tuxedo, Mario trying out some bold patterns, hipster Bowser and the royal Pikachu. There's a ton of other highlights — like the amazing pink Bullet Bill that Kyary rides — but it's the fresh outfits that warrant the most attention (and definitely need to find their way into future Nintendo games).

While we wait for these sartorial explorations to appear in, say, Super Smash Bros. and Mario Kart 8, here's a friendly wave from his royal highness, Pikachu.

More Pikachu!
