NHL 15 video introduces the best commentary team in hockey broadcasting

One of the most exciting aspects of NHL 15 is that it debuts a new commentary team for the first time in eight years. Mike "Doc" Emrick and Eddie Olczyk, the top broadcasting duo for the NHL on NBC, now call the action in the game, and publisher Electronic Arts released a developer diary today to highlight their work.

NHL 15 developer EA Canada didn't just have Doc and Eddie record lines; the studio brought them into the game, and in an unorthodox way. EA's Madden NFL franchise features in-game models of its broadcasters, the CBS Sports team of Jim Nantz and Phil Simms. But for NHL 15, EA Canada filmed Emrick and Olczyk doing pregame introductions with a green screen behind them. The two of them appear in NHL 15 in the flesh; they are joined by a virtual version of TSN analyst Ray Ferraro, who provides insights from ice level.

NHL 15 will be available Sept. 9 on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One; it was released today on Xbox One for EA Access subscribers. For more on the game, check out our E3 preview.
