Platinum Games' port of the original Bayonetta for Wii U allows players to dress up the eponymous witch as classic Nintendo characters like The Legend of Zelda's Link, Peach from Super Mario Bros. and Metroid's Samus. Those costumes will also be available as unlockables in the sequel, Bayonetta 2, Platinum Games announced today.
The Nintendo-themed costume changes for Bayonetta also alter certain visuals and sounds. When dressed as Peach or Daisy, for example, certain special moves will summon the arms and feet of Bowser. As Samus, Bayonetta can transform into a rolling morph ball. And when fighting in a Link costume, the game's currency — normally halos — becomes rupees.
The developer is expanding Bayonetta's Nintendo-inspired wardrobe with another costume based on Star Fox's Fox McCloud, Platinum revealed today.
Bayonetta 2 will also introduce a new playable character: Rodin, the shopkeeper. Rodin will be available in the game's online cooperative gameplay mode called Tag Climax.
Bayonetta 2 is coming to Wii U on Oct. 24 in North America. The disc-based release will include a copy of the original Bayonetta. For those who purchase Bayonetta 2 via the Wii U eShop, a special discount will be applied to the purchase of the first Bayonetta, bringing the total purchase price to $59.98.
Nintendo and Platinum also released a new trailer for Bayonetta 2 today, which you can watch below.
