The 18th annual Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain awards pits some heavy hitters against one another for game of the year.
This year's peer-based awards show has Destiny, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Far Cry 4, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft and Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor competing for the show's Game of the Year award.
In total, 56 games received nominations, which were unveiled today. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor has the most, with nine. Far Cry 4 has seven and both Destiny and Hearthstone received six each.
This year's show also introduced a new award category: The DICE Sprite Award. The Sprite Award is given to a game having disproportionate resources for development and exposure (as compared to AAA titles), represent a higher degree of risk tolerance, and advances our industry with innovative gameplay and experiences, according to the press release. The Banner Saga, Hohokum, Monument Valley, Threes! and Transistor are all nominated.
The entire awards show will be streamed starting at 7 p.m. ET, Feb. 5 on Twitch. This year's show will be hosted by comedian Pete Holmes.
