Xbox app coming to Windows 10, Microsoft confirms

Windows 10 will include an Xbox app as part of Microsoft's next-generation operating system, Phil Spencer, head of Xbox division and Microsoft Studios, announced today.

Through the Xbox app for Windows 10, users will be able to communicate with others on Xbox Live through voice and text chat across platforms. The app will let Windows users access achievements and Game DVR clips, as well as look at their friends lists and activity feeds.

On Windows 10, players will be able to capture gameplay clips through the Xbox app interface. Spencer demonstrated how Windows 10 users can bring up an overlay with a Windows key+G command, then save the last 30 seconds of gameplay. They can then edit and upload those clips to Xbox Live, One Drive and share on any social network, Spencer said.

Spencer also talked up Windows 10 compatibility with Valve's Steam service, saying, "Steam runs incredibly well on Windows 10."

Details on the Xbox app for Windows 10 leaked last month, showing an interface that looked like a PC version of Microsoft's SmartGlass app for touchscreen devices.
