Phil Spencer, head of Xbox division and Microsoft Studios, took the stage at this afternoon's Windows 10 event wearing ... is that a Battletoads shirt? It is!
Microsoft has teased a return to the classic franchise, created by Microsoft-owned Rare Studios over a decade before its 2003 acquisition by Microsoft. "Will there ever be another Banjo, Viva, Blast Corps, Battletoads? Yeah, someday," Microsoft's Ken Lobb said earlier this month. Last November, Microsoft filed a trademark for Battletoads. The next day, Spencer teased a visit to Rare's studios to see a "uniquely Rare game."
Got to play the new @RareLtd game today. Rare building a uniquely Rare game, as it should be. Great visit to the studio.

So when Spencer wears this shirt on stage, signs seem to point to a resurfacing of the classic brand. Though no announcement was made, Spencer teased a large presence at game industry events GDC and, of course, E3 later this year.
Update: When asked, Spencer told Polygon, "I don't think I've ever worn a t-shirt that's been a complete head fake. I don't think I have ... have I? I wouldn't do that." So if it's not a "head fake," we'll consider it a confirmation of more Battletoads.
