Today on Twitter, X-Men: Apocalypse director Bryan Singer announced new casting for some familiar faces to the 2016 follow-up to X-Men: Days of Future Past, including Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark on HBO's hit series.
The role of Jean Grey in X-Men, X2, X-Men: The Last Stand, and 2013's The Wolverine was played by Famke Jannsen. But X-Men: Apocalypse is positioned much earlier chronologically, after the events of X-Men: Days of Future Past, necessitating the new, younger cast for some key roles. Cyclops has also been recast. Previously played by actor James Marsden, Scott Summers new actor is Tye Sheridan, who recently starred with Matthew McConaughey in 2012's Mud. The role of Storm, previously held by actress Halle Berry, will now be played by singer/actress Alexandra Shipp.
It was previously announced that Inside Llewyn Davis and Star Wars: Episode VII actor Oscar Isaac will portray the titular "original mutant" Apocalypse in the 2016 film, and actor Channing Tatum has been cast as fan-favorite mutant Gambit. Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and Hugh Jackman are expected to reprise their roles as Mystique, Charles Xavier, Magneto and Wolverine respectively.
