Tetsuya Mizuguchi's music-puzzle game Lumines is coming to Android and iOS mobile devices, now that Japanese company Mobcast has acquired worldwide rights to the game — and Meteos — from developer Q Entertainment. Mizuguchi is overseeing that new version of Lumines, which will be tailored for smartphones.
The original Lumines was released 10 years ago for Sony's PlayStation Portable. It was Q Entertainment's first game and built upon Mizuguchi's trademark combination of simple gameplay mechanics paired with light, sound and music. A cell phone version, called Lumines Mobile, was published by Gameloft in 2006. Lumines Electronic Symphony was released for PlayStation Vita in 2012.
Mizuguchi stepped away from game production at Q Entertainment in 2012 and joined Mobcast as creative director that same year. He founded a new studio, Enhance Games, late last year.
The new version of Lumines for smartphones will apparently build on the foundation of the original and feature competition between players through Mobcast's Social Victory Space.
Mobcast didn't outline its plans for Meteos, the puzzle game designed by Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai, which was originally released in for Nintendo DS in 2005.
